What’s on the Summit Program?
Improved Project Performance = A Sharper Competitive Edge
Learn about integrated project delivery systems crucial to Alberta’s success
Attendees of the Contruction Productivity Summit in Edmonton will gain useable insight directly from COAA, CII and members of industry into the project performance best practices that are the proven path forward for improved productivity, quality and predictability.
Key topics to be discussed in presentations, panels and case studies include: Alberta’s need for world-class competitiveness (and how current productivity enhancement initiatives can drive this), what Advanced Work Packaging and associated best practices, tools and technologies can do for your projects (presented from the owner, contractor and vendor perspectives), the importance of – and emerging trends around – data management (including data strings and standards and digital twins), technologies that enable world-class competitiveness, how a ‘playbook’ approach to productivity can help set your organization up for success, and the next steps to achieving world-class competitiveness in Alberta.
All presentations will include audience Q&A time, and you will have the opportunity to interact with all presenters and panelists during built-in networking time. The Summit is also catered: all attendees enjoy a breakfast buffet, full luncheon and multiple networking/coffee breaks, all included with the registration fee.
Focusing the lens:
gaining local perspective of a global movement
This Summit was conceived as a means to re-introduce a project performance forum to the Alberta construction industry in 2019 (after a hiatus beginning in 2014). Advanced Work Packaging – the current gold standard for integrated project delivery – was essentially born in Alberta. Originally developed by the Construction Owners Association of Alberta (COAA), the WorkFace Planning (WFP) Model is a field productivity improvement initiative that produced outstanding results and led to the creation of the Construction Industry Institute (CII) Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) model.
AWP – a CII / COAA joint research initiative – expanded the WFP model to include front-end planning and effectively cover the full project lifecycle, from concept to commissioning and start-up. In 2018, COAA also published and released an industry-researched and developed report on Scalable AWP, or AWP for projects valued at $100M and under. Today, AWP is being applied to projects of varying size and complexity to projects major worldwide markets, by many of the top owners, EPCs and contractors throughout North America and around the globe. While AWP is a proven method for improving project productivity, quality and predictability, it is not the complete picture for Alberta’s future success.
There are a variety of tools, techniques and approaches in project planning and execution being applied today that are complementary to AWP. The Construction Productivity Summit will focus the lens on Alberta’s economic conditions, and will explore a range of topics within the project performance domain, with a view toward helping our province’s construction industry achieve world-class competitiveness in the global market.
